Japan's Visa Waiver Permanent, US next?

Japan has gone and made the 90 day Visa waivers for Koreans to visit permanent. Now there is speculation to see if the US will do the same. Considering the massive problems of illegal Koreans in the US, I would be shocked to see it happen.

For Korea to be included, the country has to record a visa refusal rate of less than 3 percent for at least two years, i.e. this year and the next, according to Michael Kirby, a consul general at the U.S. Embassy. That would mean Koreans have to wait until at least 2008. The current refusal rate stands at 3.2 percent.

A lot depends on Korea's economy. It will be interesting to watch and see.
